1. Short title, extent and commencement .—(1) This Act may be called the Police Act, 1949.
(2) It extends to all the[3] [Union territories].
(3) It shall come into force in a[4] [Union territory] on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint in this behalf for[5] [such territory].
